Thoughts

Just worked it out, I played competitive snooker with Roy and the rest of the carlton lads for almost 20 years. Some great times playing snooker and fishing. We had some good laughs on the weekend fishing trips away. Roy will be sadly missed. Andy Cook.

I knew Roy from the age of 16 and was persuaded by Dennis Fisher to invite him to play with Carlton No.1 Snooker team a few years later (he won the club KO for the first time in 1977). This was the best decision as a young player and captain I ever made. He made such an influence on me in both aspects and on the team overall. He was always my first choice in the team because of his team spirit and determination. He was a great player as well!! He was always modest when he'd played well - he never said anything, his smile said it all. The only time I saw him upset is when he felt he let the team down. He always tried his best regardless. Our team lasted almost 25 years and reluctantly Roy decided to retire in the early 2000s, he loved Snooker. They were the best years any young player could wish for and Roy was a big part of it. Thanks Roy. Lots of love to Brenda, Neil, Kay and family thinking of you all at this sad time. Paul Bannister Chairman, Sheffield Snooker League
